The Wikidelphia Page Format of PaulSank

The Wikidelphia page format of PaulSank is one of the most frequently used ways to structure a Wikidelphia page. It supersedes a format I (PaulSank) was using until 2017 or 2018. Starting from the top, its features include:

  • The shortest possible version of the subject's (or target's) URL. By simplifying, I want to reduce clutter and make the web link easier to remember.
  • Repetition of the subject's name. (1) I figure that the folks I'm posting about will enjoy seeing their name prominently displayed. (2) I want our visitors to have an easier time remembering the name in case they later want to come back to the page. (3) It helps individualize and make the page different from other pages.
    The name is repeated:
    • In the main headline, of course.
    • In the URL, which usually matches or abbreviates the name.
    • In boldface as a "definition phrase" in the description.
    • In the photo caption.
    • Note: Sometimes a single, completely correct name is hard to pin down. I made a decision to include variants.
  • Tagline. If the subject has a tagline, I put it here.
    • To avoid overuse of boldface and big type, I instead use white space and italics to make the line stand out.
    • I do not invent taglines for any subject I don't own or run.
    • The creation of a great tagline can cost an organization some money and effort, so I don't tamper.
  • Photo.
    • On Copyright: To the best of my ability, I steer clear of copyright infringement by adhering to a strict policy: Use The Subject's Own Photos Only. No news photos, no stock photos, etc.
    • If information is available for a more meaningful caption, I include it.
  • Predictability. With this format, it's easy for our visitors to get to know what specific types of information they can reliably expect to find about each subject. Each page typically has up to four sections: Description; In The News; Info; See Also.
  • Description. I quote or excerpt from the subject's own self-description. I don't write the description myself unless I own or run the subject. If I can't find descriptive information on the subject's website, I look for information in my page's "In The News" section.
  • In The News. I find almost all of my subjects by looking through a nearly exhaustive list of all the news outlets in Philly, so this section usually shows up on my pages. This format emphasis means that my new pages are almost always about subjects that the public has read about recently and so may want to know more about.
  • Info sections typically or often include:
    • Event Calendar. I try to make sure that this item leads reliably to an event calendar that is active and up-to-date.
    • Facebook.
    • Twitter.
    • Volunteer. In my format, a Volunteer link takes our visitors to a page where they can directly look into volunteering. This practice makes our Category:Using-Volunteers a huge and handy resource for anyone seeking opportunities.
    • Less often: Brochure. Email Newsletter. Facility Rentals. Instagram. Internships. Locations. Membership. Online Store. Photos. Video. YouTube.
  • See Also. In this section I put links to other Wikidelphia pages that are somehow closely relevant. In order to keep you from accidentally and unintentionally exiting Wikidelphia, I don't include external links here.
