It makes it easy to simple formatting like '''bold''' and ''italics'', and even add templates and signatures.  It also makes it easy to add [[Nonprofit Technology Resources|links]], because it can search existing article names.  If you are familiar with Wiki markup, you can disable the rich editor.  If you disable the rich editor, it will remember your preference.
