One uncommon feature of this congregation is its church-by-phone system, where the pulpit microphone feeds not only the loudspeakers in the sanctuary but also a phone line. This feature was started to give homebound people without Internet access a way to attend, but it has since found other uses, e.g., for travelers, for people who are out sick with colds, flu, and for people who want to hear a sample as they contemplate a visit.

One uncommon feature of this congregation is its church-by-phone system, where the pulpit microphone feeds not only the loudspeakers in the sanctuary but also a phone line, so that the caller hears the entire service, both the Sunday morning and the Sunday evening. The caller needs only a phone and the number (see Info below). "Just dial and listen." Callers with Web access can download the order of worship at the church's site.


The phone option has proven useful to its originally intended beneficiaries, i.e., people who probably don't use the Web and are in a homebound situation or living in a care facility. And, as you might expect, it has connected with people who are out sick for just a while and with hospital patients. It has also given regular attenders a safe option during hazardous weather, provided travelers a way to stay hooked up to worship on the road, and offered anyone, anywhere, the option to pay the church a first visit remotely.
