The Mayor’s Commission on African American Males (MCAAM) studies the diverse conditions of Black men in Philadelphia. Using its findings, the commission makes yearly reports and recommendations to the Mayor, City Council, and others. The MCAAM aims to effect positive outcomes for Black men and boys.


The Commission will address the issues related to '''unemployment, incarceration, lack of education and health within the African-American male community'''.
The commissioners come from a variety of professional backgrounds, including:
*Government.
*Business.
*Educational institutions.
*Health facilities.
*Labor organizations.
*Civic organizations.


The Commission will include at least 30 men spanning multiple generations. Members of the Commission will serve without compensation and will submit to the Mayor an annual report on the state of African-American males in Philadelphia, with proposed action steps and recommendations. The co-chairs of the Commission are:
In 2016, a voter referendum made the MCAAM a permanent commission. The Mayor appoints its members.
