Greater Canaan Church of God in Christ was founded in 1993 in a space near the intersection of 15th and Jefferson streets. It moved to a location on Spring Garden Street before it found its current home in Fairmount.

One thing that has not changed though is the community between all of its members.

Note: The above descriptive information came from the Philadelphia Tribune article below. In 2023, the church's Facebook page showed an address in Belmont adjacent to Mantua.
