Highway Tabernacle is a member of the General Council of the Assemblies of God, the largest Pentecostal denomination in the world. In addition to traditional church ministry, including a nursery for infants and classes for children, they offer English as a Second Language classes, access to Teen Challenge Drug/Alcohol Rehab Program, and Christian counseling.

History

Highway Tabernacle was established on Thanksgiving day in 1894 by seven members of the Cross and Crown society as an evangelistic work. They began with a Gospel Wagon, which they drove through the city of Philadelphia spreading the message of salvation.

In 1918, the congregation voted to affiliate with the then-new Assemblies of God.

Past pastors of Highway have included two men who went on to the position of General Superintendent of the Assemblies of God, as well as district presbyters.

Highway was one of the first Assemblies of God churches to send out missionaries.
