The Association of Fundraising Professionals Greater Philadelphia Chapter (AFP-GPC) gives the following descriptive information:

The Association of Fundraising Professionals (AFP) represents nearly 31,000 members in more than 200 chapters throughout the world, working to advance philanthropy through advocacy, research, education, and certification programs.

Founded in 1960 as the National Society of Fund Raisers, AFP fosters development and growth of fundraising professionals and promotes high ethical standards in the fundraising profession.

The Greater Philadelphia Chapter was established in 1968 and now has over 500 members.

AFP is a nonprofit organization dedicated to providing innumerable benefits and fundraising resources to its members.

Whether you are new to the fundraising profession or a seasoned professional, a volunteer involved in the philanthropic process or want to learn more about getting involved in your local chapter is your go-to resource for all things relating to fundraising in the Philadelphia area.

The Mission of AFP-GPC is to enhance the philanthropic effectiveness of the Greater Philadelphia community through the promotion of ethical practices, professional development, education, communication, leadership, and service.

The Ten Star Award honors those chapters who have accomplished many of the key objectives outlined in the AFP Strategic Plan. The award encourages chapters to perform specific activities that increases professionalism in fundraising, while promoting public awareness of philanthropy. AFP-GPC is a 10 Star Chapter.

AFP’s Strategic Plan is the blueprint for organizational growth and success in the future. For the strategic plan to be effective, it must be implemented through a partnership between the International Headquarters and the local chapters. As each chapter contributes its part to the overall Strategic Plan, AFP will meet its goals and continue to advance philanthropy and the fundraising profession around the world. One of the specific goals in the plan is AFP will embrace and engage diverse individuals, groups and organizations within the fundraising profession.
