Teacher Action Group Philadelphia, also known as "TAG Philadelphia", gives the following descriptive information:

TAG Philadelphia works to strengthen the influence of educators within schools and over policy decisions.

While partnering with parent, student, and community groups, TAG is committed to fostering positive school transformation, environments where students and teachers can thrive, and community ownership and influence within education.

The majority of TAG members are full-time teachers in Philadelphia, but also include nurses, counselors, after-school educators, and allies of public education. Our members come form every type of learning environment–public, charter, and independent. We welcome everyone who believes in quality public education for all to join our ranks.

TAG is also a member of the the Network of Teacher Activist Groups, a national coalition of grassroots teacher organizing groups. We work together to build an education movement for liberation, locally and nationally, through shared analysis, political education, mutual support and learning, and joint projects.

TAG believes that education is essential to the preservation of civil and human rights and is a tool of human liberation. Every child has a right to a high quality, equitably funded, public education based on:

  • Participatory democratic principles.
  • Community empowerment and self-determination.
  • A challenging, comprehensive and critical curriculum.
  • Respect for cultural diversity and a commitment to anti-racism.
  • Equipping all students to deeply understand the roots of inequality and oppression and preparing them to act to change the world.

TAG subscribes to the Eight-Point Platform of the Teacher Activist Network.
