Urban Seeds is a 501c3 nonprofit organization supporting the financial health and stainability of economically disenfranchised communities and businesses through financial wellness education and microloans. First incorporated in 2012, Urban Seeds is comprised of seven ELCA Lutheran congregations in Philadelphia and its first ring suburbs.

Urban Seeds values partnership and currently operates with support from the ELCA National church in Chicago and Southeastern Pennslyvania Synod of the ELCA based in Mt. Airy. Member churches work to bring financial wellness programming and resources to their congregations and communities via

  • education to promote financial literacy and discipline

  • partnership with groups that share our core values and goals
  • participation in community events and life
The Evangelical Lutheran Church in America is a mainline Protestant denomination headquartered in Chicago, Illinois. The ELCA officially came into existence on January 1, 1988, by the merging of three Lutheran church bodies. -- Wikipedia
