Hi Ben!

Yippee!! Now we can post to each other.

I'm at user talk:Shollingsworth. Stan is at user talk:Stan. Thanks! Shollingsworth 14:19, 15 January 2011 (PST)

Participants Wanted

Now we need to get some of the planning people on here. 207.245.115.121 16:02, 15 January 2011 (PST)

A couple of things I'd like

Hi, Ben --- Are the following two things possible?

  1. Can we put an automatic lock on "personal stories/blogs" so that only the original author or administrators can edit them?
There is a plugin that I think offers functionality like this. But the problem is that then people can lock any page they create, which can be abused. I wonder if there is a plugin to lock only the user's user page, which then could be used as a blog. Does that make sense? BenGreenberg 12:17, 16 January 2011 (PST)
  1. Special:CreateTemplate - I'd like to create a template that says {{help me}} which would alert administrators somehow that help was needed on a page. They have that in Wikipedia. I just don't know enough about templates. See Wikipedia "Help Me".
Shollingsworth 17:05, 15 January 2011 (PST)
Is it okay for me to try to make the {{help me}} template? I think I see how to do it. I'll probably only have to enter a name, a field entry, and a category for the page to be listed to. (Of course, the Category will probably have to be created too.) Shollingsworth 17:12, 15 January 2011 (PST)
I'm going to try it. I think it can be done, and then we'll know how to make one kind of Templates. I think I can blank the entries if I have to. Shollingsworth 17:52, 15 January 2011 (PST)
Test successful. Putting {{help me}} in an article {preferably at the top) will now cause that article to be listed in [[Category:Help me]]. I'll leave an article with a {{help me}} in it as an example. Shollingsworth 18:00, 15 January 2011 (PST)
Great. BenGreenberg 12:17, 16 January 2011 (PST)

The new text editor

Hi Ben,

The new text editor is pretty cool!

By the way - there's a "wikitext" button in the upper left corner so that we can switch back and forth between WYSIWYG and Wikitext views -- all our old tricks still work.

In particular, I can still enter {{help me}} and get a message in Category:Help me --- Also, the ~~~~ still work!  SteveH 18:20, 16 January 2011 (EST)

Steve, there is actually a template function in the GUI view.  It's the {T} near the top right.  It even lets you browse available templates, with information about how to use them. BenGreenberg 19:01, 16 January 2011 (EST)
Wow, I will try that out!  (Not here though.)
I don't see how to indent yet using Tab, but I'll pick that up.
The only flaw I see is that when I enter [[Wikipedia:Free Geek|Free Geek]] it saves with an error message as Free Geek. I have to test this more. SteveH 19:10, 16 January 2011 (EST)
Now it works okay. That just means more testing! SteveH 19:12, 16 January 2011 (EST)

Need a skyline for the Main Page

 Hi, Ben.

Tables Of Contents are annoying

Hi Ben,

The Tables Of Contents are unsightly and annoying.  Can we turn them off by default? SteveH 20:10, 23 January 2011 (EST)

I don't love the idea of turning them off by default unless we come to a formal decision to do that. But you can turn it off on individual pages where you don't think it's helpful with the __NOTOC__ magic word. There is also a user preference to hide all TOCs for just yourself when browsing.
