A Reconciling Congregation at the Intersection of Spirituality and Justice
Calvary is a progressive, racially integrated urban congregation located in the Cedar Park neighborhood of West/Southwest Philadelphia.
We are a Reconciling Congregation within the United Methodist Church (UMC), designated as such in 1985 to formally and intentionally proclaim our acceptance and affirmation of LGBTQIA+ persons as part of our overall commitment to inclusivity. And in clear protest of the official position of the UMC.
In that spirit, we are a community rooted in Christianity which is being built by and brought to people who are committed to:
- engaging in intentional dialogue that strives to care for and heal one another, *celebrating both our diversity and that which we hold in common;
- celebrating the divine in our lives through traditional and new ways of worship;
- fostering personal experiences of the Holy Spirit and inner spiritual growth;
- operating for peace and justice for all people and all creation within our midst and throughout the world; and
- supporting activities and institutions that lovingly and passionately engage in the eradication of racism, sexism, heterosexism, classism, poverty and all forms of abuse and oppression.
