Goldring Reentry Initiative (GRI)
Building Up Lives, Breaking Down Bars
GRI MSW students work with incarcerated clients three months pre-release and at least three months post-release to provide a continuum of care and fill a gap in service between the prison system and the community. Through the GRI model, social work students collaborate with clients to create individualized discharge plans that address the unique needs and strengths of each participant. Discharge plans include identifying personal support systems and making referrals to appropriate community agencies to ensure that needs are met in a timely manner upon release. The flexibility and continuity of the GRI model allows students to plan, implement, and adjust discharge plans with clients as new opportunities and challenges arise.
