Mighty Writers is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit. Our mission is to teach Philadelphia kids (ages 7 to 17) to think and write with clarity, so self-esteem grows and success is achieved at school, at work and in life.
- We offer a daily afterschool Academy, plus long- and short-term writing classes at night and on the weekends. We also have a Mighty Teen Scholars program, intensive SAT Prep courses and college essay writing classes.
- All MW programs are free to participating students.
- Our volunteers are integral to our success. Over 300 of the city’s best creative minds (writers. teachers, journalists, artists, etc.) volunteer to teach and mentor over 1,000 kids at Mighty Writers annually.
- Everything we do at Mighty Writers is designed to help combat Philadelphia’s literacy crisis. More than forty percent of our city’s students drop out before high school graduation and half of all working-age adults are functionally illiterate. These are statistics we need to change.
- Our Mighty Writers center is located on Christian Street at 15th in the heart of one of Philadelphia’s most historic African-American neighborhoods.
- Please, stop by and see us anytime.
