United Way of Southeastern Pennsylvania will kick off its 2011 volunteer income tax preparation initiative with a special event on Tuesday, January 25th from 11am to 3pm at the United Way headquarters, 1709 Benjamin Franklin Parkway in Philadelphia.<br> &nbsp;During those hours, families earning less than $50,000 (and individuals earning less than $20,000) can get free assistance in filing their 2010 tax returns with the help of an IRS-certified volunteer tax preparer.<br> &nbsp;Also, for the third straight year, &lt;http://walmartstores.com/communitygiving/203.aspx&gt;The Walmart Foundation, &lt;http://www.unitedway.org/worldwide/&gt;United Way Worldwide, &lt;http://www.thebeehive.org/&gt;One Economy’s Beehive.org&nbsp; and the &lt;http://www.realeconomicimpact.org/&gt;National Disability Institute have partnered to bring free tax preparation and filing services to consumers nationwide.&nbsp; Taxpayers earning less than $57,000 per year can file their state and feder&lt;http://www.myfreetaxes.com/philly&gt; al taxes for free online at the partnership’s&nbsp; &lt;http://www.myfreetaxes.com/philly&gt;MyFreeTaxes.com website.<br> &nbsp;The website is a one-stop place to find out about everything you need to know about filing tax returns. &nbsp;In addition to tools for filing online or finding in-person volunteer help in your own neighborhood, the site also offers a Make It Easy Toolbox to help taxpayers understand and apply for common &lt;http://www.thebeehive.org/money/pay-taxes/income-basics-credits-deductions-and-witholding/common-tax-credits/tax-credits-households-children&gt;tax credits for households with children, &lt;http://www.thebeehive.org/money/pay-taxes/income-basics-credits-deductions-and-witholding/common-tax-credits/tax-credits-working-people&gt;working people, &lt;http://www.thebeehive.org/money/pay-taxes/income-basics-credits-deductions-and-witholding/common-tax-deductions/tax-deductions-students&gt;students, and &lt;http://www.thebeehive.org/money/pay-taxes/income-basics-credits-deductions-and-witholding/common-tax-deductions&gt;many others.<br>&nbsp; UWSEPA’s campaign targets taxpayers eligible for the Earned Income Tax Credit, which has been called America’s largest anti-poverty program.&nbsp; A refundable tax credit for low to moderate-income working individuals, the EITC can increase a family’s annual income by over $5,000.&nbsp; The EITC reduces the tax burden on workers, supplements their wages, and helps families pay bills or save for the future.<br>&nbsp; Unfortunately, every year millions of dollars in tax refunds go unclaimed in Southeastern Pennsylvania.
