South Philadelphia West is a section of South Philadelphia that includes Melrose, Girard Estates, West Passyunk, and nearby nameless areas. It should not be confused with Southwest Philadelphia, which lies across the Schuylkill River to the west.

South Philadelphia West overlaps Grays Ferry, Point Breeze, and Newbold on the north. It adjoins Lower Moyamensing and South Philadelphia East on the east.
