South Philadelphia West is a section of South Philadelphia that includes Melrose, Girard Estates, West Passyunk, Packer Park, and nearby nameless areas. It should not be confused with Southwest Philadelphia, which lies across the Schuylkill River to the west. It is bounded approximately by Tasker Street, Moore Street, and Mifflin Street on the north, South Broad Street on the east, Interstate 95 on the south, and the Schuylkill River on the west.
Adjoining Neighborhoods
South Philadelphia West overlaps Grays Ferry, Point Breeze, and Newbold on the north. It adjoins Lower Moyamensing and South Philadelphia East on the east, the Navy Yard area on the south, and the Schuylkill River on the west, where it is across from Eastwick, Elmwood Park, and Kingsessing.
