Our Approach

Since its founding in 1992, The Food Trust has worked with partners to develop a comprehensive approach to improve food environments and teach nutrition education in schools; work with corner store owners to increase healthy offerings and help customers make healthier choices; bring farmers' markets to communities that lack access to affordable produce; and encourage other fresh food retail development in underserved communities.

The success of this approach is evident in Philadelphia, where The Food Trust is a key partner of Get Healthy Philly, a groundbreaking public health initiative led by Mayor Michael Nutter and the Philadelphia Department of Public Health. The Food Trust works with the Philadelphia Department of Public Health to make the healthy choice the easy choice by increasing the access and affordability of healthy foods.
